Breakdown from “American Way” (mp3)

A minor diversion on the road to actually finishing a decent recording of anything new. The song itself is really nice but the recording isn’t done and won’t be any time soon. This is the breakdown after the main verses before the last chorus. I’ve always really liked this kind of thing. This was done before digital—before I went digital anyway—so it involved riding the faders and the VCRs.

Re: Breakdown from “American Way” (mp3)

Firefox prompts me to install "an additional plugin" for the media in this post, and Firefox can't figure out what plugin to use. I had to look at the page's HTML to get the mp3 link.

About the tune: I like it! The last 5 seconds or so took a turn that didn't appeal to me, though: the change in tempo and full chords didn't seem to fit in with the previous section, although the introductory scream was nicely placed. The tune had a Police-Marilion-Roger Waters feel to it. I DO look forward to hearing the rest. I think I listened to it about 10 times.

Re^2: Breakdown from “American Way” (mp3)

Sorry about the plugin. It’s QuickTime and I thought I had a cross-compliant set of tags for it but apparently not.

I like it a lot too. The rest of the song, you hear a chorus as it goes out, is nice but not produced well. Hence the chop of just the breakdown. The main theme rides a tri-tone too so it needs to be better to be enjoyable. I wish I could play bass as well as Neil. I'd probably start from scratch.

From Jody: This site shows how to use an embedded mp3 player (quicktime, in this case). It works for me. This Standards Compliant method to add MP3s to pages page explains what happens using your method with different types.
