Later salmonberry

Here’s the before picture. They taste better this year. A little more like raspberries and a little less like waterlogged Chinese candy.

We eat very few of them. We leave the lion’s share to the birds so they can spread the seeds. It works well. Almost every patch of disturbed soil around here that I’ve kept weed free either sprouts a fern, a salmonberry, a maple, or a red alder.
